Treatments
Your First Consultation
This appointment usually takes about
30mins where a detailed evaluation and
diagnosis will be carried out. Including x-rays and
any relevant medical history. Advice will be given
on the best treatment options available and any
questions you may have will be answered. A suitable
treatment plan will then be devised. |
If laboratory work is required i.e.
crowns, veneers, bridges etc. We may decide to take
impressions for a 'Wax Up Model'. These models are made by
our technicians to create an image of the final appearance.
Before any work is actually carried out. Only when you completely understand and
approve the suggested treatment plan will treatment
commence.

New Laser Bleaching
More people want to have a healthy bright
smile. The bleaching method provides this for you.
Over the years the colour of teeth changes and by
using the bleaching process your teeth become
whiter. All kinds of materials may
discolour your teeth including tea, coffee, some
kinds of antibiotics and smoking. |
The method we use is very safe and
affordable and will not cause any damage to your teeth.
The brightness does depend on the colour you have now.
Normaly the colour lasts between 2 to 3 years.
New Laser Bleaching is a non-invasive way of lightening the
natural colour of the teeth. The degree of lightening varies
from patient to patient and cannot be predicted or
guaranteed.
New Laser Bleaching is a procedure that
is carried out in the dental chair, with no need for any
form of anaesthetic. A peroxide gel is applied and the laser
is passed over the teeth. It is this plasma light that
activates the gel which bleaches the teeth.
This procedure is repeated a total of 3
times and usually takes about one hour. There are many
varying factors, which may enhance or hinder the power
bleaching. These are best discussed with your dentist.

Root Canal Therapy
RCT is required when the blood or nerve
supply to the tooth becomes infected through decay
or injury. The blood and nerve supply is known as
the pulp, this is inside the root canal of the
tooth. It is this material that must be removed if infected to prevent an abscess or in
the worst case loss of the tooth. |
|
As you may imagine it is an extremely time-consuming
and highly skilled procedure. To aid the dentist in
this procedure we have all the latest equipment.
Including the Auto ZX Hand Piece which gives exact
measurements of the length of the root canal. And
the Optima II and System B Heat Source. All of these
ensure that the canal is perfectly sealed which
dramatically increase the chance of success. RCT can
usually be completed in one visit, although in some
cases two or more visits may be required. |

Dental Implants.
We have been successfully using Dental
implants for many years. We like other dental
practices specialising in this area, see them as the
technological break through that will see more
traditional methods of replacing missing teeth, such
as dentures becoming a thing of the past. |
They are made from titanium and fixed
into the jaw bone much the same as the root of a tooth. Then
a tooth coloured crown is fixed over the top. So they appear
and function in the same way as the original tooth they
replace. They can be used to replace any number of
missing teeth; their precise number and use depend upon the
economic and anatomic factors of every individual patient. Suitability for Dental Implants is best
discussed with your dentist.

X-rays
All x-rays taken at this practice are now
digital. This means the images appear on the
computer screen immediately, eliminating time wasted
waiting for x-rays to be developed.
The excellent clarity is an advantage,
but more importantly digital x-rays reduce the amount of
radiation admitted by up to 90%. |
Mercury free fillings
For many years there has been conflicting
views about the use of mercury in amalgam fillings. There are dentists that believe without
doubt that the mercury in the amalgam is harmful and
should not be used. There are dentists that are
still happy to use amalgam for fillings. |
To our knowledge there is no conclusive
proof either way on the use of mercury in amalgam and the
harm it may cause. However we do not use amalgam fillings at
this practice and have not for some years. We only use non-mercury white filling
materials, which are asthetically more pleasing. If you have any concerns or would like
further information on mercury in amalgam fillings. We are
able to advise, but ultimately it is your decision.
Veneers
Veneers are a 'tooth friendly' way of
altering the appearance of your natural teeth. This
is because preparation of the tooth is minimal.
Veneers are made of porcelain, of which a shade is
chosen to match your natural tooth colour. Veneers
can be used for various reasons including masking
discoloured teeth, closing gaps or simply to give a
more even appearance to your smile. Two surgery visits are normally required
for this simple procedure. |
|
Bridgework
Bridges can be used as a permanent
replacement for missing teeth. There is no need for the
palate or gums to be covered which makes them an attractive
alternative to dentures. They are prepared & made in the same way
and use the same materials as crowns (please see crown
diagrams for reference). |
These are two different types of bridges,
a. Bonded bridges involve the two
adjacent teeth to support the additional tooth/teeth.
b. Maryland bridges are attached to the back of the adjacent
tooth using a metal wing.
Both procedures normally require two
surgery visits. Your dentist will advise you of which type
of brigdework is best suited for you.
*All our veneers, crowns and bridgework
are custom made in a laboratory who maitain very high
standards and create very natural looking teeth.
